When our Mukilteo clients' aging backyard fence started leaning and gapping in places, they came to us wanting more than a patch job: a full privacy fence that could work with the mature trees and plantings already established on the property. The project covered the entire backyard perimeter, working around established rhododendrons, hydrangeas, and several maples the clients were adamant about protecting. Because the yard wasn't a clean rectangle and included a sloped back corner, our crew laid out the fence line in sections, adjusting post spacing and panel angles to follow the natural grade rather than forcing a straight run that would have fought the terrain.
We built the fence in a board-on-board cedar style, with a finished cap rail and trim boards along the top for a cleaner, more finished look. A gate near the garage was framed with a diagonal Z-brace for long-term rigidity and fitted with black strap hinges and a gate latch to match the surrounding hardware finishes. Throughout construction, the crew took extra care around the client's existing landscaping, adjusting post locations to avoid root zones and confirming placement near the rhododendrons before making any cuts. The full backyard wrap took just over a week to complete. The clients say the fence already looks like it has always been part of the property, and they finally have the privacy they were missing.
