After watching their previous wood-post fence start rotting and leaning within a few years, our clients wanted a rebuild that kept the cedar look they loved without repeating the same structural failure. The solution was a full privacy fence around the front and side yard using steel posts as the structural frame, with cedar face boards fastened on both sides for a traditional look that will hold up far longer underground than wood ever could.
Because the yard slopes along one side, our crew adjusted individual post heights to keep the top fence line reading level and consistent, rather than following the grade and creating a stair-step effect. Near the front corner, the fence line had to route carefully around an existing flagpole mount on the house, requiring on-site adjustments to panel width rather than a standard layout. Cedar boards were fastened with a pneumatic nailer for consistent depth and spacing across every panel, and the crew used a string line throughout to keep post placement true, particularly around the driveway gate. That gate was fitted with a spring-loaded latch for one-handed operation and a diagonal Z-brace for long-term rigidity. The full project, spanning the front and side perimeter plus the gate, took about six days to complete. The clients were extremely happy with the result, noting that the fence keeps the warm cedar look they wanted while finally solving the rot problem that plagued their old fence, with a gate that's easy to use and holds up exactly as it should.
